Maid Cafés are a special kind of theme restaurant that first appeared in the Akihabara area of Tokyo and became popular around the turn of the century. Unlike your typical Western restaurant, Maid Cafés are staffed by highly attentive workers of a novelty Cafés that provided extra care to individuals that they serve. As the name suggests, Maid Café workers typically dress in maid outfits or other forms of cosplay.

The Katsucon 18 Maid Café is now open to take your reservations! Spaces are limited, so make your reservation now.

Throughout the year we spend a lot of time planning, scheduling, mapping, meeting with Guests, researching, and all and sundry other things that go into making our favorite convention a reality.. but do you know what the most important part of Katsucon is?

It’s YOU! The ATTENDEES!

You’re the most important part of the con and the most important thing to us. We have increased our photo ID requirements in order to make things better for you, but we don’t want to make them harder! We really appreciate all of the feedback we’ve received, and we’ve made an adjustment in response to it. We will be accepting the International Student Identity Card for those of you that do not have, and are too young to obtain a government issued photo ID (we love you, New Jersey!). The ISIC is an inexpensive ($22), internationally recognized photo ID card available across the country and around the world. It can take 3-4 weeks if you order online, but they have same-day service if you go into one of the many offices. So… check the site to get a list of the information you need to carry with you, and get out there and get your IDs!

Clarification: we’d also like to clarify that we will NOT be requiring government issued/ISIC IDs from those 12 and under when they pick up their badge with their ID-bearing, registered parent or legal guardian.

Katsucon Thanksgiving (Psst.. It’s a Contest!)

It’s at this time of year when we take time to look around and appreciate the people and things that we are thankful for. Those of us that staff Katsucon, are thankful for many things but at the top of the list, we are most thankful to have the amazing attendees that fill the Gaylord’s halls with otaku of not just anime but of Japanese culture as well.

Something else that we are thankful for is the continued partnership with the Gaylord National, as not only do they love our attendees, their convention center has proven perfect for our needs and the gorgeous environment has proven perfect for our cosplayers.

It’s this continued partnership that has allowed the Gaylord National to offer a special, previously undisclosed deal to our attendees. They have agreed to reduce their Sunday night rate to $169 (plus the normal resort fee). This special rate is only available for Sunday night.

Much like the Gaylord has shown their appreciation of us with the lowered Sunday rate, we’d like to show our appreciation for you, the attendee. On March 15^th (after K18) we will announce 4 lucky winners who will each receive a Winner’s Package for K19. Each package will consist of 4 full weekend passes to the convention, 4 Katsucon 19 T-Shirts and one free room night during Katsucon 19 (February 15 – February 17, 2013).

The only requirement to be entered into the contest is to book and stay at the Gaylord for 3 nights during Katsucon 18. Two of the nights must be Friday, February 17^th and Saturday, February 18^th. The third night is your choice, Thursday the 16^th or Sunday the 19^th (remember, Sunday gets a discounted rate!). After the convention, each person (the primary registrant of the room only) who stayed 3 nights will be automatically entered into the drawing. Four names will be drawn at random to receive the winning packages. Winners will be notified no later than March 15th.

Anyone having already made reservations will be entered automatically at the conclusion of their stay. If you haven’t made your reservations yet, now’s your chance!
